As one of Pitcher Partners longest standing staff members, Stephen’s breadth of expertise is matched by his extensive knowledge of his clients’ businesses. He is down-to-earth and relatable, and takes the quality of his work and client outcomes personally.
Stephen specialises in audit and assurance, business advisory, year end reporting and management accounting, and corporate transactions. In recent years, he has honed his focus toward agribusiness, food, transport and property development.
Informally, Stephen is often referred to as the statesman of internal Pitcher Partners culture. He joined predecessor firm Hungerfords as a graduate, worked throughout the merger with KPMG, then joined the team who left to found Pitcher Partners in 1991. The buzz and energy of that time is reflected in Stephen’s commitment to his work today. He is proud of Pitcher Partners’ ongoing middle market specialisation and the personal relationships that are still formed with clients despite the firm’s enormous growth.
Stephen became a partner in 2000 after initially turning down the partnership’s first offer. He thoroughly enjoyed his work as a director with a strong client base and was cautious about juggling partnership work with a young family. However, his confidence and capability made him an ideal candidate and a year later he accepted a second approach when the time felt right.
The variety of support Stephen offers business owners, combined with the varied industries he has worked across, continue to keep him engaged and inspired by his work.
