Michael relishes the challenge of helping business owners navigate the complex landscape of transactions, whether through mergers and acquisitions advice, financial analysis, due diligence investigations or valuations.
Because divestment and acquisition activity are not daily business occurrences, Michael understands the need to provide clarity for clients, reassuring them along the way and ensuring they achieve their desired goals. He considers divestment to be so much more than a transaction. It involves thinking wholistically about long-term goals and legacy as well as the headline purchase, in order to ultimately to make a difference in stakeholder’s lives.
Clients benefit significantly from Michael’s astute business acumen and persuasive negotiating skills. He is adept at finding a mutually beneficial way forward in challenging situations and where stakeholders hold competing interests. The intensity of a transaction forges strong bonds between all involved, and Michael remains in close contact with many of the founders he has worked with.
When Michael first joined Pitcher Partners Melbourne, there was no dedicated M&A practice. Today, they have grown the offering so significantly that Pitcher Partners has a reputation as a leading M&A provider, with Michael and fellow Partner James Beaumont recognised as two of the country’s most active M&A advisors for deals completed in Australasia throughout 2019.
Michael launched his career in industry and joined Pitcher Partners Melbourne after working in London for Baker Tilly. He became a Partner in 2013. Michael is the global head of Corporate Finance for Baker Tilly International and also leads the APAC region.
