Brian has extensive professional experience in tax advisory, focussed predominantly on income tax for corporates, trusts and large family groups. He has a broad range of skills gained through providing services to a wide range of clients, from start-ups to large multi-national organisations.
Brian also advises on a wide range of both domestic and cross border mergers, acquisitions, group restructures, and fund raisings (including several IPO’s) across a diverse range of industries including property, retail, technology, agribusiness and industrial markets.
Being able to engage ‘at the coalface’ with owners of the business and their key stakeholders is immensely rewarding for Brian. Although a self-confessed ‘numbers person’ with an astute appreciation of the complex legal dimensions of tax, clients consider Brian an approachable and collaborative advisor because of his ability to distil complex information into practical applications.
Brian’s personable approach means he has cultivated a wealth of connections across the firm, as well as building a dedicated team of staff who are focussed on delivering excellent outcomes for clients. He is attentive to the needs of business owners and can quickly draw in the best-placed person to service their needs as and when required.
Starting his professional career in Auckland with a Big Four firm focussed on middle market clients, he then worked in professional services in London on large structured finance transactions. Moving to Australia in 2010, Brian continued with another Big Four firm providing corporate tax advisory. Joining Pitcher Partners in 2016 marked a return to the middle market client base he most enjoys working with. He joined the Melbourne partnership in 2018.
