Ali possesses a wide range of skills and experience as a tax advisor, with a focus on corporate taxation issues, including the research and development (R&D) tax incentives. He also has specialist skill set in employment taxes in matters covering fringe benefits tax, payroll tax and employee share schemes and incentive plans.
With a focus on offering commercial and practical advice, Ali builds a rapport with his clients and truly understands their business and concerns. By always being accessible, he establishes trust and instils confidence. Ali has a relaxed manner and good sense of humour, meaning he is able to lighten the atmosphere around discussions of complex tax subjects.
Starting as a graduate with Pitcher Partners, Ali has been practicing in the tax arena for two decades with a focus on building skills in corporate tax and trust taxation. He has always been interested in emerging and new tax areas, and has developed and adapted to changing business and taxation environments to stay at the leading edge of this arena for clients.
When tax consolidation was introduced as part of tax reform in 2004, Ali stepped up to become one of the key practitioners in this area for the firm. He became a partner in 2015, when he took on leadership of the employment taxes practice. Today, clients seek Ali’s support on tax and commercial matters relating to superannuation, fringe benefits, payroll tax and employee equity incentives.
Ali is well-versed in R&D and enjoys tackling the challenge of helping businesses across a wide range of industries to access this incentive. He has grown the Pitcher Partners R&D offering greatly over time; establishing a collaborative team who bounce ideas off each other to inspire solutions to new challenges.
