Perth Investment News – October 2024
Welcome to the October edition of Investment News.
The quarterly newsletter brings the latest insights and updates on the global and local investment markets, as well as some of the strategies and opportunities we are exploring for our clients.
In this issue, the following topics are covered:
- The September quarterly performance and outlook. It has been one of the more volatile quarters in recent history as war continues to escalate in the Middle East, diverging central banks interest rate decisions in the US and Australia, the implications of the Yen carry trade unwinding in Japan, and the latest Chinese economic stimulus.
- The US election looms large for the current quarter, with a tight race expected. The economic and market impact will largely hinge on the balance of power across both the House and Senate. A split between the House and Senate could temper policy changes. One of the most polarizing issues for the economy is tariffs, especially with respect to the aggressive Republican stance on this issue, which if implemented, would likely put renewed upward pressure on inflation.
- One of the beneficiaries of the energy transition will be copper, and in response, miners are increasing their exposure through acquisition and expansion. This article looks at the response to the market outlook by RIO and BHP as they position their businesses for future growth.
