New cross-border tax advisory partner for Pitcher Partners Sydney
Pitcher Partners Sydney has strengthened its existing cross-border tax advisory offering with the promotion of Terry Hoban to Partner, the first partnership appointment for the firm in 2025.
With 17 years’ experience as a global mobility and US tax specialist, Terry has built a strong reputation as a trusted tax advisor for Australians moving to the United States, and US nationals residing in Australia.
“Relocating overseas is already a challenging process, and navigating the US tax system adds another layer of complexity, particularly for Australians with typical investment structures like family trusts and SMSFs.” Terry said.
“Even if US nationals move abroad, they are still required to file an annual tax return. The process is incredibly complex, with the documentation often exceeding 100 pages, so a knowledgeable team in your corner is invaluable.”
“Our advice is most effective when we have the opportunity to get it right up front, rather than having to untangle affairs that have become more complicated.”
“Our support also extends beyond individuals, to supporting Australian companies that are expanding across the Pacific, including their founders and employees.”
“By taking the time to truly understand our clients, we can offer practical and commercial guidance as well as a clear understanding of how we will navigate their situation together”.
Prior to joining Pitcher Partners, Terry worked at a number of Big 4 firms, including leading the US individual tax practice at KPMG Australia.
Pitcher Partners Sydney Managing Partner Adam Irwin congratulated Terry on his promotion, saying that it enhanced the firm’s specialist tax offering to service this growth area.
“This is a complex area, and we recognised some time ago that there was an opportunity for our firm to specialise in providing cross-border tax advice. We are the only firm in the mid-market with US in-house tax capabilities, and the demand for advice in this area continues grow.”
“Terry joined the firm in July last year and has quickly become an important member of our US tax team.”
“His promotion recognises the significant contribution he has made to our existing specialist tax capabilities and our firm, as well as the value he has delivered to our clients. His global tax expertise is crucial to helping people make the right decisions now, for the future”.
Terry’s appointment came into effect from January 1.
