Webinar: UK Inheritance Tax (IHT) Exposure – New Government, new rules

Pitcher Partners Sydney hosted a live webinar that helped attendees understand the key proposed tax changes likely to affect individuals and families with ties to both the UK and Australia.

This webinar addressed whether the new changes would require attendees to plan differently for possible inheritance tax exposure.

More specifically, our speaker Private Business and Family Advisory Partner, Alison Wood, set the scene as to why the August 2024 Labour victory, the first since 2005, could have wide-reaching tax implications for those with UK links. She covered:

  • Abolition of Domicile status – what did that mean?
  • Impact for IHT and its scope – there was both good and bad news!
  • Other possible reforms such as VAT on Private school fees, changes to capital gains tax and furnished holiday let relief.
