New Executive Director in Pitcher Partners Perth’s tax team
Pitcher Partners Perth has promoted Ben Macpherson to Executive Director in the firm’s Taxation team.
Managing Partner of Pitcher Partners Perth, Leon Mok, congratulated Ben on his appointment, which took effect from January 1, 2023.
“Ben’s promotion is richly deserved, he is still just 32 but demonstrates an exceptional depth of knowledge around tax advisory, which is highly valued by clients,” he said.
“I have watched his development from a graduate to expertly handling complex tax issues for clients across a wide range of sectors, but in particular mining and resources.
“Ben has also evolved as a leader within the firm, developing his team and sharing knowledge, which has contributed greatly to Pitcher Partners’ stability and growth.”
Advising on taxation issues affecting corporate and multinational clients, Ben has an impressive level of international experience including North America, the United Kingdom, Asia and West Africa. His expertise is sought across a range of industries and sectors but his specialist area is resources, where his in-depth understanding of issues affecting exploration and production companies comes to the fore.
Knowledge sharing is a key part of Ben’s character – he is a regular contributor to professional publications and a sought-after presenter on income tax issues. With a Masters of Taxation and Chartered Tax Advisors qualifications Ben is committed to continually building on his technical capabilities. Ben began his relationship with Pitcher Partners Perth in 2011, completing two weeks of vacation work, and 12 months later joined the firm full-time as a graduate, after completing a Bachelor of Commerce at Curtin University.
The vacation work proved pivotal in his career development. After spending the first week in the insolvency practice, he shadowed the tax team in the second week and hasn’t looked back.
In an era where one employer is becoming the exception, Ben credits the people he works with as a key factor in his loyalty. “Leon has probably been the biggest influence on my career at Pitcher Partners, having been an exceptional mentor since I started over ten years ago,” he said. “There’s no doubt the high calibre of the people I work with have contributed to the making of an exceptional culture and I’ve never really considered moving to another firm. “Of the graduate group of five I was part of in 2011, three are still here and in an industry where there can be high employee turnover, I think that speaks volumes.”
“Going forward, I’m excited to continue to grow the firm, in particular our emerging Deal Advisory and Tax Consulting offerings.”
