The recently opened $200 million, 20,000-square-metre expansion at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) was the ideal venue for The Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s (VCCI) Business After Dark event.
Offering premium Victorian food and drinks in the stylish new Goldfields Café and Bar, the contemporary, multi-purpose spaces aim to connect and inspire, reflecting the unique qualities of Melbourne.
Peter King, CEO of MCEC, indicated that the expansion is already attracting local, interstate and international organisations and delegates.
“This new space is reshaping the events industry and will boost tourism not only in Melbourne but in Victoria and Australia,” said King.
“The space was built with Melbourne in mind – it’s about being curious and relaxed, and of course, it cannot be Melbourne without great food and coffee.”
MCEC co-sponsored the VCCI event along with Pitcher Partners. Vicki Macdermid, Partner of Pitcher Partners, acknowledged the alignment of values between Pitcher Partners and VCCI.
“Our aim is to make a difference to those around us – our clients, our people, and the important associations we have with like-minded organisations such as the Chamber and the wider community,” said Macdermid.
“We believe real difference is achieved through the economic benefits of doing great business.”
The MCEC extension is already boosting visitor numbers to Melbourne. On the day of the VCCI event, 16 organisations had booked events in the centre, and over 15,000 delegates had come through the doors.
